Boney M. and Frank Farian in a new NDR documentary

Late in the evening, from 30 to 31 December 2011, the German TV channel NDR showed a new documentary about the disco era called "Glitter, Glam und Partynächt" ("Glitter, glamor and parties"/ An Evening with Disco Stars). On the eve of the New Year holidays, the show of this program seems to be especially relevant, since disco music has long been recognized throughout the world as the best way to dispel boredom on a cold New Year's Eve.

An hour and a half excursion into the history of the emergence and flourishing of disco culture was accompanied by a show of the brightest numbers and significant events associated with this cosmopolitan style. The audience was given a rare opportunity to see how such famous producers as Giorgio Moroder and Frank Farian worked in the 1970s, listen to the memories of people who were the direct heroes of the disco era, and also watch fragments of performances by cult artists: Boney M., ABBA, BEE GEES , VILLAGE PEOPLE, Grace Jones, Amanda Lear, SILVER CONVENTION, Amii Stewart and many more. Fragments from the Hollywood film "Saturday Night Fever" with John Travolta, who became one of the main symbols of the 70s, were shown.

Quite a large part of the film was devoted to the club nightlife of those years, and first of all, the legendary New York disco Studio 54...

Many kind words were said about producer Frank Farian, which is especially pleasant in the year of his 70th birthday and the 35th anniversary of his most successful project, Boney M.

Farian's colleague, renowned musician and producer Harold Faltermeyer recalls: "I was not a frequenter of nightclubs and visited such establishments only a few times. But Frank Farian spent a lot of time there and carefully analyzed what kind of music makes the audience go to the dance floor. This is one of the recipes for his great success, especially with Boney M." The host of the cult television show DISCO, Ilja Richter, also shared his memories of Faran and his artists. In addition, fragments of Farian's interview for the largest West German television company ARD, which he gave in 1978, were shown, being at the pinnacle of success.

Speaking about working with Boney M. during recordings in Offenbach (a suburb of Frankfurt), the producer revealed some details of the studio "kitchen": "The very first single "Baby, Do You Wanna Bump?" I recorded on my own. Then, when success came, we recruited a group of performers. But the work on each song was different. All female parts in "Rivers Of Babylon" were recorded only by Liz and Marcia. Marcia, Liz and me sang on "Daddy Cool". And on songs like "Brown Girl In The Ring" and "Belfast" we sang all five of us."

О продюсере Фрэнке Фариане было сказано много добрых слов, что особенно приятно в год его 70-летнего юбилея и 35-летия его самого успешного проекта Boney M.
Коллега Фариана, известный музыкант и продюсер Харольд Фальтермэйер (Harold Faltermeyer) вспоминает: "Я не был завсегдатаем ночных клубов и посещал такие заведения всего несколько раз. Но Фрэнк Фариан проводил там много времени и внимательно анализировал, какая именно музыка заставляет публику выходить на танцпол. В этом кроется один из рецептов его большого успеха, особенно с Boney M.".
Вспоминал Фариана и знаменитый ведущий культовой телепрограммы DISCO Илья Рихтер (Ilja Richter). Кроме того, были показаны фрагменты интервью Фариана для крупнейшей западногерманской телекомпании ARD, которое он дал в 1978 году, находясь на вершине успеха.
Говоря о работе с Boney M. во время записей в Оффенбахе (пригород Франкфурта), продюсер приоткрыл некоторые подробности студийной "кухни": "Первый сингл "Baby Do You Wanna Bump?" я записал самостоятельно.
