The star of the 80s aerobic boom Sydne Rome turned 60 years old

March 17, 2011 the famous American actress and singer Sydne Rome, now living in Italy, celebrated her 60th birthday. In addition to successful work in films and on the stage, she is also known as one of the founders of the so-called aerobic movement that became fashionable in the 80s. In many ways, the aerobics star Sydne achieved fame thanks to the German producer Frank Farian. However, first things first.
The beginning of the 80s of the last century was marked by qualitative changes in the entertainment industry. The spread of home video recorders in developed countries has given rise to a new fashion: video clips and training programs. The "disco era", which began in the mid-1970s, was replaced by a period of passion for aerobics and breakdance.
Despite the active offensive of the "new wave" style, disco music, having undergone some changes, was adapted to new conditions. In the 80s, the main consumers of disco music were not the regulars of discos, but the visitors of trendy fitness centers and sports clubs.
The “aerobic wave” was raised by the famous American actress Jane Fonda, who successfully sold her set of exercises to the disco rhythms of a huge army of housewives (and not only) who are obsessed with maintaining a slim figure and “prolonging youth”. In 1982, Fonda released her program not only on LPs (which included booklets with detailed instructions), but also on video cassettes, where she personally demonstrated the exercises in the company of her assistants.
Following North America, "aerobic fever" moved to Europe, where music producer Frank Farian became one of the pioneers in the development of this industry.
Having signed a contract with the famous American actress, singer and model Sydne Rome, he published a similar program in January 1983, which was released on almost all media available at that time: LP discs, VHS cassettes, and even on high-quality optical video discs (LDV). The album was called "Aerobic Fitness Dancing" and was a non-stop mix of popular hits adapted to the disco rhythm. A fairly large part of the album was occupied by hits from the catalog of Frank Farian.
Sydne Rome, also as Jane Fonda, demonstrated her own aerobics program with assistants. The audio version was supplied with her comments recorded over the musical soundtrack. The studio team of Frank Farian, the vocal trio LA MAMA and several other specially invited performers took part in the creation of the disc.
The album "Aerobic Fitness Dancing" quickly reached platinum status and was released in many countries. One of the tracks, "Let's Move Aerobic", was subsequently released as a separate single. The song was performed by ERUPTION star Precious Wilson.
In May 1983, the soundtrack of this aerobic album was released as a separate musical program performed by another Farian's project - MAD. Conceptually, it was slightly different from the original, besides, several tracks were replaced there. The MAD album "28 Superhits For Dancin'" featured almost the same line-up of musicians and vocalists as the Sydne Rome program.
A little later, the aerobic boom reached the countries of the socialist camp, including the USSR. On Soviet television programs, as a rule, were conducted by young gymnasts, which attracted the male part of the population to the screens. Such television broadcasts were especially popular in military units. Often these programs used music tracks from the Sydne Rome album.
Back in the 70s, the disco style spawned the "rollers" movement. As a rule, these were young people roller skating in specially equipped dance clubs. There were even such concepts as "rollerboy" and "rollergirl" - teenagers who spent most of the day "on wheels". Later, roller skating began to be accompanied by listening to dance tunes through personal cassette players "Walkman", which were first introduced by Sony Corporation at the turn of the 70s and 80s. Then African Americans in the United States gave rise to a new derivative of this fashion - street breakdance. However, large portable audio systems were already used here, which later received the name "Boom-box".
In 2012, it will be exactly 30 years since the start of the aerobic boom, which became the progenitor of modern fitness centers and gave a new impetus to interest in dancesport.  Surely this round date will not pass by the attention of the largest media.

ERUPTION - Precious Wilson.
Sydne Rome.
Sydne Rome.

Sydne Rome "Aerobic Fitness Dancing"

"All right, let's go, we're gonna work that body" - Diana Ross sang es vor, Millionen folgten, und ein neuer Körperkult war geboren.
