The German state media holding DW ("Deutsche Welle"), which broadcasts via a global satellite system and on the Internet in all major languages of the world, has summed up the performance of the German record industry over the past 45 years.
In early August, the Chinese edition of the DW website was the first to publish the statistical results, but only at the end of the month, the TV program "popXport" announced the list of winners of the rating in the most prestigious category for the rest of the world. Like 5 years ago, the best musical export of the most prosperous European country is Frank Farian's project Boney M.
Back in 1986 (after the end of the official existence of the group), one of the respected German music experts wrote in the magazine Der Spiegel: "Boney M. is our musical Mercedes, which hardly anyone can compare with." As you can see, after so many years, the position of the absolute leader has not changed.
To date, almost 160 million copies of the legendary band's albums and singles have been sold worldwide. They have received many awards from the music industry (including the British Carl Alan Award, Goldene Europa, etc.), about 200 gold and platinum discs, and are also listed in the Guinness Book of Records.
In April 2015, Boney M. received the "Diamond Disc", the music industry's highest award, for selling over 150 million records. Only a few such trophies in the world of pop music can boast of such as Michael Jackson, ABBA, Celine Dion and THE BEATLES.
Recall that the rating was obtained by the German statistical service MediaControl and a group of music experts based on an analysis of the number of sold sound carriers and positions in the world charts from 1970 to the present.
If we compare the current rating with a similar list 5 years ago, we should note the disappearance of Dieter Bohlen's Modern Talking project from the TOP10. This is explained by the fact that during the specified period, the Modern Talking group did not appear on the charts outside of 3 German-speaking countries (Germany, Austria and Switzerland).

В начале августа первой обнародовала результаты китайская редакция сайта DW и лишь в конце месяца в телепрограмме popXport, состоялось оглашение списка победителей рейтинга в самой престижной категории для остального мира. Как и 5 лет назад, лучшим музыкальном экспортом наиболее преуспевающей европейской страны признан проект Фрэнка Фариана (Frank Farian) Boney M.
Ещё в 1986 году (после завершения официального существования группы) один из уважаемых немецких музыкальных экспертов писал в журнале Der Spiegel: "Boney M. - это наш музыкальный Mercedes, с которым вряд ли кто может сравниться". Как видим, по прошествии стольких лет положение абсолютного лидера не изменилось.
На сегодняшний день по всему миру продано почти 160 миллионов копий альбомов и синглов легендарной группы. В прошлом он держался на 10-й позиции. Объясняется это тем, что за указанный период MT не появлялись в ТОП-чартах за пределами 3-х немецкоязычных стран.

We've analyzed all major international music markets and studied data on more than 1000 German music productions, all global hits over the past 40 years. Here's the result: the 10 most successful music acts from Germany since 1970.
Number 10: Cascada
Natalie Horler is the face of Cascada. But DJ Manuel Reuter and producer Yann Peifer are also part of the act. In 2005, Cascada had their international breakthrough with "Everytime We Touch”, a cover of a track by Scottish singer Maggie Reilly. Cascada have gone on to sell some 30 million albums worldwide.
Number 9: Enigma
"MCMXC a.D." was Enigma’s first album. Released in 1990, it charted in the Top 5 in five European countries and shot to second place in New Zealand and Australia. German producer Michael Cretu is the mastermind behind Enigma. Before Enigma, he made Sandra into a star.
Number 8: Rammstein
Explosive and provocative, Rammstein are known as Germany’s bad boys of rock. They released their first studio album more than 20 years ago. But it was their follow-up, "Sehnsucht”, that brought them worldwide fame. It went platinum in several European countries as well as in the U.S. and Canada.
Number 7: Kraftwerk
Innovative and visionary, Kraftwerk have been a force to reckon with since the 1970s. The legendary Dusseldorf act may be publicity-shy, but they’ve exerted a powerful influence all around the world. Today they’re regarded as pioneers of techno and electro-pop.
Number 6: Donna Summer
Donna Summer moved from the U.S. to Munich in the late 1960s. That’s where she released the "Love to Love You Baby” in 1975. The song was ((co-written and)) produced by Giorgio Moroder, inventor of synth-disco. "Love to Love You Baby” made Donna Summer into an international star. Another global hit by the Queen of Disco: "I Feel Love”, released in 1977.
Number 5: James Last
German-born band leader James Last, who died in June 2015, was an international star. He released more than 200 albums, which sold more than 80 million units worldwide over his long career. The "king of easy listening”, he’s still known as the inventor of "Happy Sound”. Some of his biggest hits include "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye” and "Proud Mary".
Number 4: Scorpions
The Scorpions are one of the most successful rock bands ever, and they’ve sold more than a hundred million albums worldwide. Their classic rock ballad "Winds of Change” is still associated with the fall of the Berlin Wall - even though it was actually released a year later. Other megahits include "Rock You Like a Hurricane” and "We Built This House”.
Number 3: Snap!
The biggest hit by Eurodance act Snap! was "(I’ve Got) The Power”, released in 1990. The project was the brainchild of producers Luca Anzilotti and Michael Münzing. But Snap! were anything but a one-hit wonder. In all, 14 of their songs charted internationally, and they sold more than 22 million albums worldwide.
Number 2: Scooter
In 1994, Scooter saw their international breakthrough with "Hyper Hyper”, a song with simple lyrics and a catchy beat. With 17 studio albums and more than 60 singles, they’ve been a fixture on the international charts ever since. Many of their lyrics are famous around the world. When Scooter are on the road in Russia, for example, their fans still come up to them and ask: "How much is the fish?”
Number 1: Boney M.
Hit-machine Boney M. are the most successful act from Germany since 1970. Their many studio albums and singles stormed the international charts. Boney M. was the creation of German producer and songwriter Frank Farian. But Farian didn’t just stand behind the mixing console - he also sang the male vocals.

Seit den 70er Jahren beeinflussen Kraftwerk Musiker aus aller Welt. Die Band aus Düsseldorf steht für bahnbrechende Beats made in Germany. Kraftwerk haben einen eigenen Soundkosmos geschaffen - und gelten als Wegbereiter für Stile wie Elektro-Pop und Techno.
Platz 6: Donna Summer
Die Erfolge der US-Amerikanerin Donna Summer im Musikbusiness gehen zurück auf ihre Zeit in Deutschland: Hier produziert sie 1975 den Song "Love to Love You Baby". An den Reglern: Giorgio Moroder, der Erfinder der Synthesizer-Disco-Musik. Mit "Love to Love You baby" wird Donna Summer zum internationalen Star. Ein anderer Welthit aus dieser Zeit: "I Feel Love".
Platz 5: James Last
Im Juni 2015 verstarb einer der ganz großen internationalen Musikstars: der deutsche Bandleader James Last. Mehr als 80 Millionen Platten hat er verkauft und über 200 Alben veröffentlicht. Der Easy-Listening-Spezialist gilt als Erfinder des "Happy Sound". Mit Titeln wie "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye" oder "Proud Mary" macht er seine Fans auch nach seinem Tod noch happy.
Platz 4: Scorpions
Ihre Hits zählen zu den internationalen Rock-Klassikern. Mit mehr als hundert Millionen verkauften Tonträgern gehören die Scorpions zu den kommerziell erfolgreichsten Bands der Musikgeschichte. Die Ballade "Wind of Change" geht um die Welt und wird zur Hymne der deutschen Wiedervereinigung. Aber auch "Rock You Like a Hurricane" oder "We Built This House” werden zu Ohrwürmern.
Platz 3: Snap!

Wenn Scooter in Russland unterwegs sind, kommen Leute auf sie zu und fragen: "How much is the fish?"
Platz 1: Boney M.
Boney M. sind die erfolgreichsten Musiker aus Deutschland seit 1970. Mit zahlreichen Studioalben und Singles stürmen sie die internationalen Charts. Zu verdanken hat die Musikwelt Boney M. dem Deutschen Frank Farian. Der Produzent sitzt bei den Aufnahmen nicht nur hinter dem Mischpult. Er singt auch die männlichen Vocals.
