MA BELLE - Frank Farian's project from the "dashing 90s" / MA BELLE -

At the end of the 20th century, producer Frank Farian's hit factory supplied the international market with a wide range of musical products - from refined club music to well-known popular bands.
The 1990s saw the rise of Eurodance, Techno, House, Hip-Hop, Rap and Dance Pop. All these directions were present in the FAR Music catalog: THE REAL MILLI VANILLI, TRY'N'B, LE CLICK, CHILLI, LA BOUCHE, NO MERCY, Nadja and a number of others.
MA BELLE is a 1998 project that used a mixed Euro House style (a combination of Hip-Hop and Electro Pop). A certain bet was made on their debut single "Do It", which is confirmed by the rather active promotion of the video of the same name (it could be seen on major music channels).
The song was written by Frank Farian under the pseudonym G.Mart in collaboration with lyricists C. J. Nelson and J. Walls. The CD single went on sale on March 2, 1998. Several different promo versions have also been released, including on vinyl.
However, increasing Internet piracy and the deteriorating economics of Farian's then-international distributor BMG (Bertelsmann Music Group) prevented the new material from being promoted for the required time, so a second video supporting the alleged album was not forthcoming. The project was put on hold, and the MA BELLE trio began to work as a vocal support group at concerts of more successful FAR Music's artists.
The single MA BELLE "Do It" included 4 diverse versions of this composition with a timing from 3:51 to 6:05, and the most successful, according to most experts on Farian's work, was the dance maxi version. It is a pity that this track was not chosen for the filming of the band's debut video.

Все эти направления присутствовали в каталоге FAR Music: THE REAL MILLI VANILLI, TRY'N'B, LE CLICK, CHILLI, LA BOUCHE, NO MERCY, Nadja и целый ряд других.

Boney M. "Children Of Paradise" (Long Version, 1980)

12" long version of one of the most striking singles Boney M., released at the turn of the 70s and 80s - "Children Of Paradise", is presented today in a video on our blog. The video was created in 2012 by the efforts of the FFFclub members, who have long hatched plans to create maxi versions of the most popular hits of the Caribbean quartet.
At one time, around the song "Children Of Paradise" a legal conflict arose regarding the copyright for this work. It's no secret that the creator and producer of Boney M., Frank Farian, quite often resorted to borrowing folk motives or ennobled damp originals. So, for example, it was with several Caribbean tunes including "Hooray, It's A Holiday!", "Rivers Of Babylon" and "Calendar Song". Also the famous track "Nightflight To Venus" was originally known as "Dance With The Devil" (1974) by drummer Cozy Powell. Finally, the timeless hit "Rasputin" was borrowed in part from a Turkish folk song.
It may be so, but after all sorts of legal proceedings, the authorship, as a rule, remained with Farian's company. Firstly, because ethnic and folk melodies are not protected by copyright, and those compositions for which there is one were arranged by Farian almost beyond recognition and actually turned into independent works.
By the way, there is nothing wrong with the fact that Frank Farian and his team of arrangers popularized already almost forgotten melodies and turned them into hits of an international scale. It was thanks to Boney M. that such musical blockbusters as "Sunny", "No Woman No Cry", "Fever", "Heart Of Gold" and many others were reborn.
"By the end of the 70s, I almost never went on stage, and therefore many famous songs that I dreamed of performing in my own interpretation were entrusted to Boney M. Thus, I wanted to pay tribute to the great performers and musicians that I loved in my youth", - Farian said in a recent interview.
And nevertheless, the passions around the accusations of "plagiarism" did not subside. In 2008, the tabloid press spread another rumor that the famous Boney M.'s hit "Children Of Paradise" was allegedly "stolen" from a certain Moroccan group MIGRI. The song was originally called "Lili Twill" and was written and performed by Younes Megri. Some argued that after the song was released, a scandal erupted, followed by another lawsuit, allegedly bringing "victory" to the Moroccans. But we will have to disappoint the proponents of such a claim. The triple CD-box "Boney M. The Collection", released in the same 2008 on Sony BMG, confirms in credits all rights to the song of FAR Music. What does this mean? The answer is obvious: either the rights to the work were completely redeemed by Farian, or the lawsuit (if any really took place) again ended in his favor.

Так, например, было с несколькими карибскими мелодиями (включая "Hooray, It's A Holiday!", "Rivers Of Babylon", "Calendar Song"), композицией "Nightflight To Venus", которая была известна с 1974 года в исполнении ударника Кози Пауэла (Cosy Powell) под названием "Dance With The Devil", или тем же "Rasputin", который частично позаимствован из турецкой народной песни.
Именно благодаря Boney M. получили второе рождение такие музыкальные блокбастеры как "Sunny", "No Woman No Cry", "Fever", "Heart Of Gold" и множество других.
