On December 16, 2022, the SR TV channel, which is part of Germany's largest media holding ARD, premiered a documentary film dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the pioneers of the Saarland rock and roll movement. "Ma Baker" becomes Boney M.'s third viral hit on TikTok

Following the success of "Daddy Cool" and "Rasputin", the next bestseller of the legendary Boney M becomes a TikTok star. This time it is "Ma Baker" (1977), which describes the history of the famous gang led by the "gangster mama" Ma Barker, who terrorized Americans in the 20s-30s of the XX century.

Recall that one of the closest assistants to the creator of Boney M. Frank Faran, Hans-Jörg Mayer, suggested using the famous Tunisian folk melody "Sidi Mansour", which was then appropriately arranged and accompanied by lyrics based on a real police chronicle.

"Ma Baker" became Boney M.'s third super hit to achieve worldwide fame. The single accompanying the release of the album "Love For Sale" became N1 in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, N2 in the UK, Finland, Italy, New Zealand, Portugal, South Africa, N5 in Australia and so on. On the pan-European TOP100 Singles Chart, it also became N1. In addition, the single reached the TOP50 in Canada, became N31 on the US Billboard Hot Disco singles and entered the Billboard Hot 100. In the following decades, several remixes of "Ma Baker" also became international hits, and Lady Gaga used part of the chorus from "Ma Baker" in her superhit "Poker Face" (2009).

And now, exactly 45 years later, it becomes a bestseller again, this time on the TikTok youth platform. As the Italian press writes today, the video went viral thanks to the Tiktoker under the nickname ngaly3622 and has already gained more than 10 million views in a short time. Accordingly, the track "Ma Baker" began to return to the digital download charts, especially in Latin America. At the time of this article's publication, searches on the Shazam music platform have skyrocketed in Mexico (N86), Ecuador (N77) and Peru (N73). In addition, the song is downloaded by users as part of various compilations of Boney M. hits on iTunes and Apple Music music services.

Well, let's see how successful "Ma Baker" will be compared to last year's phenomenally popular "Rasputin". In any case, several online magazines do not rule out that this could become the next summer hit of Boney M.

Apple Music.
