When Liz Mitchell left Boney M. in 1989, deciding to start a solo career, her bandmates - Marcia Barrett, Maizie Williams and Bobby Farrell - came to the conclusion that this project should be kept. They decided that they would record new material and not get hung up on repeating old hits. As Frank Farian lost interest in working with Boney M., the out-of-work artists had no choice but to change management and find a new producer. Following the lineup update, the band recorded the single EVERYBODY WANTS TO DANCE LIKE JOSEPHINE BAKER / CUSTER JAMMIN, on which Marcia sang the lead vocals.
Some insiders in the music industry have already predicted the return of Boney M. to the big stage in a new capacity. The single, and the accompanying video, were supposed to define a turning point in the band's history - it captured the entire magical essence of the Boney M.'s music. Marcia, Bobby, Maizie and new lead singer Madeline Davis from another Farian's project, LA MAMA, were ready to welcome the 90s with new hits. But since the single was released on the British record label Imperative, which had an agreement with the owner of the rights to the Boney M. brand and provided for the mandatory participation in the project of Liz Mitchell and Frank Farian, the producer stopped its distribution. In retaliation, Farian released the official Boney M. feat.Liz Mitchell single "Stories", where former members Liz Mitchell and Reggie Tsiboe were joined by two new backing vocalists.
After a series of legal proceedings, a ban was issued on concert performances and the release of sound carriers under the "Boney M." brand, as it belongs to the founder and permanent producer of the group, Frank Farian. Later, the single of ex-members Boney M. was reissued as Marcia, Maizie, Madeline and Bobby, but after losing the rights to use the world famous brand, it went almost unnoticed.
After the final split of the original Boney M., Bobby Farrell re-recorded the song with his own group of female vocalists called Boney M. feat. Bobby Farrell. Proceeds from the sale of the single were donated to charity.
