The leader of the pop trio NO MERCY celebrated his 52nd birthday

On September 24, the lead vocalist of the group NO MERCY, Marty Cintron, celebrated his 52nd birthday. The future idol of the world pop scene was born in 1971 in the Bronx district of New York. After graduation, Marty went to Miami (Florida), where he performed on the resort coast. 

NO MERCY is a project of a famous German producer Frank Farian, mostly known for his work with Boney M., ERUPTION, LA BOUCHE and MILLI VANILLI. The band consists of three musicians, Marty Cintron and twin brothers Ariel and Gabriel Hernández. The lineup hasn’t changed since 1996, which is considered the official year of group formation. At first, Farian found Cintron, who introduced him to his friends Ariel and Gabriel.

It’s interesting to note that Marty has Puerto Rican roots while Ariel and Gabriel were born on Cuba. All three musicians lived in the USA until moving to Germany to work with Farian. 

In 1995, in Germany, the band recorded its debut song. It was a cover version to Everything But The Girl’s "Missing". The song made its way to the 19th position of Germany’s GfK Entertainment Charts.

In 1996, NO MERCY presented their first single "Where Do You Go". The song climbed to the 5th spot of Billboard Hot 100 and came in 3rd in Germany. It earned platinum certification in Germany any Australia. Several music celebrities, including Frank Farian, wrote the lyrics for the album.

In October 1996, the trio presented its debut studio LP, “My Promise”, which they recorded with the German label Hansa Records. The LP topped Austria’s Ö3 Austria Top 40 and reached high spots on German, Swiss, Danish, Belgian, and Australian charts. Such hits as "When I Die", "Please Don't Go", and "Kiss You All Over" became very popular in Europe and the USA. Many fans dreamed to book NO MERCY for their private events, but the group was busy giving concerts.  

Eight days after the official release of “My Promise” in Germany, the album came out in the USA under the name of NO MERCY. The LP reached the 22nd spot of Canadian Albums Chart and settled on the 104th spot of Billboard 200. In the USA, the album was released under Arista label. It earned a platinum certification in the USA and gold in Canada.

In 2002, together with Al Di Meola, NO MERCY released "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood", which was popular in Germany but didn’t make it to the world arena. It climbed to the 65th spot of GfK Entertainment Charts.

It took the group 9 years to get themselves together for a new album. “Day By Day” came out in 2007 under an independent label Show No Mercy Records. The LP didn’t make it into the charts. It was available on iTunes. To support the album, the trio went on tour of Europe and Australia.

Several times the band’s songs appeared on TV. The single “Where Do You Go" was performed in the 1998 movie A Night at the Roxbury. Later, the artists performed that song at the sitcom Lois and Clark.

In 2011, No Mercy and Stan Kolev recorded a non-album single "Shed My Skin".

In 2015, they presented “Day By Day 2015”.

In 2021, as Frank Farian celebrated his 80th birthday, NO MERCY reunited with their producer to record a special version of the Cherish (The Life)/Rivers of Babylon (MashUp Mix) single and video of the same name. A little later, this track was included in the new remix compilation of Boney M. "Rasputin - Lover of the Russian Queen".

Currently, the group continues to tour, taking part in numerous pop music festivals of the 1990s.

24 сентября лидер-вокалист группы NO MERCY Марти Цинтрон (Marty Cintron) отметил своё 52-летие. Будущий идол мировой поп-сцены родился в 1971-м году в нью-йоркском районе Бронкс. После окончания учёбы Марти отправился в Майами (штат Флорида), где выступал на курортном побережье.

NO MERCY — проект известного немецкого продюсера Фрэнка Фариана, наиболее известного по работе с группами Boney M., ERUPTION, LA BOUCHE и MILLI VANILLI. В состав группы входят 3 музыканта: Марти Цинтрон и братья-близнецы Ариэль и Габриэль Эрнандес. Состав не менялся с 1996-го, который считается официальным годом создания группы. Сначала Фариан нашёл Цинтрона, который познакомил его со своими друзьями Ариэлем и Габриэлем.

Интересно отметить, что Марти имеет пуэрториканские корни, а Ариэль и Габриэль родились на Кубе. Все трое жили в США, пока не переехали в Германию, чтобы работать с Фарианом.

‘MILLI VANILLI’ Documentary Coming to Paramount+

Let us recall that the world premiere of the documentary film about Frank Farian’s most sensational musical project in the United States took place at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 10 this year. Now this opus, detailing the history of the pop duo Milli Vanilli, which topped the world charts at the turn of the 1980s-1990s, is being released on the Paramount+ streaming service.

After a troubled childhood in a German foster family, Robert Pilatus and his French friend Fabrice Morvan joined forces to become one of the world's biggest pop sensations. Their 1989 debut album spawned 5 Billboard TOP 5 hits, 3 of which went No.1. In 1990, they won a Grammy for Best New Artist and also received 3 American Music Awards. However, a few months later it turned out that they had not actually sung a single note on their albums and singles. 

The new film, produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, MRC and directed by Luke Corem, will tell the "true story" of the duo, Morvan promises in an interview with Billboard magazine. His former partner Pilatus died of an alcohol and prescription drug overdose in 1998.

“Finally – the true story of Milli Vanilli has been told!” Morvan says in a statement announcing the film’s acquisition. “I’m thankful Luke Korem and his team went to the lengths that they did. The journey I returned to during the filming of this documentary didn’t leave any stone unturned. At last I can close this chapter in peace. … Get ready to take a walk in our steel-toe boots.”

Korem adds in his own statement: “For over 30 years, the story of Milli Vanilli – in particular Rob and Fab – has been reduced to sensational headlines. With this documentary, we pull back the curtain on pop music. Featuring interviews with the real singers, record executives, the producer mastermind behind the deception and exclusive interviews with Rob and Fab, we unveil the truth of this complex, exciting and dramatic story. I’m thrilled that Paramount+ shares our vision and will bring this film to audiences around the world.”

MILLI VANILLI — which includes an interview with Billboard contributing writer/editor Gil Kaufman, who wrote an oral history on the group’s rise and fall in 2020 — is directed and produced by Korem and produced by Bradley Jackson, MRC, Keep On Running Pictures and MTV Entertainment Studios. Hanif Abdurraqib and Kim Marlowe are executive producers. Starting October 24, the documentary will be available through Paramount+ in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, Latin America, Brazil, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

However, the main premiere of the year is still ahead. On December 21, the long-awaited biopic “Girl You Know It's True” will be released on world screens, which was created jointly by filmmakers from Germany, France, South Africa and the USA. Frank Farian is one of the co-producers of this film project.

Теперь этот опус с подробным описанием истории поп-дуэта Milli Vanilli, возглавившего мировые чарты на рубеже 1980-х-1990-х, выходит на стриминговом сервисе Paramount+. 

После проблемного детства в немецкой приёмной семье Роберт Пилатус и его французский друг Фабрис Морван объединили усилия, чтобы стать одной из крупнейших мировых поп-сенсаций. Их дебютный альбом 1989-го года породил 5 суперхитов, попавших в Billboard TOP 5, из них 3 стали №1 («Blame It on the Rain», «Girl I'm Gonna Miss You» и «Baby Don't Forget My Number»). В 1990-м они выиграли «Grammy» как лучший новый исполнитель, а также получили 3 American Music Awards. Новый фильм, спродюсированный MTV Entertainment Studios и MRC и снятый Люком Коремом, расскажет «правдивую историю» дуэта, обещает Морван в интервью журналу Billboard. Его бывший напарник Пилатус умер от передозировки алкоголя и отпускаемых по рецепту лекарств в 1998 году.

Документальный байопик MILLI VANILLI, который включает в себя интервью с автором и редактором Billboard Гилом Кауфманом, поведавшем в 2020-м свою версию взлёта и падения группы, снят и спродюсирован Коремом при участии Брэдли Джексона, MRC, Keep On Running Pictures и MTV Entertainment Studios. В России видеоплатформа Paramount+ недоступна из-за бойкота страны крупнейшими голливудскими кинокомпаниями и медиагигантом Sony Music.

Однако, главная премьера года ещё впереди. 21 декабря на мировые экраны выходит долгожданный байопик «Girl You Know It's True», который создан совместными усилиями кинематографистов из Германии, Франции, ЮАР и США. Фрэнк Фариан является одним из со-продюсеров этого кинопроекта.
